Abstract

The Democratic Republic of Congo has experienced wars which have involved the greatest number of forced displacements and which have had adverse consequences on the mental health of the elderly. In the provinces of North and South Kivu, this problem of forced displacement has been observed, a region which has been characterized by tribal conflicts and armed groups since 1997. It is in this context that this article which focuses on the impact of forced displacements the mental health of elderly people living in the Mubimbi camp of Minova / South Kivu, wanted to identify the disorder induced by forced displacements in the elderly people living in the Mubimbi camp of Minova / South Kivu analyze the influence of sex, marital status and social support variables on the development of the disorder in elderly victims of forced displacement. The results obtained showed that nearly three quarters of the subjects developed an average level of post-traumatic stress syndrome (73%), and a small proportion developed a low (24%) or very low (3%) level. Regarding the analysis of the variables, it turned out that only the marital status variable very significantly influences the development of post-traumatic stress disorder (probability is 0.002) and that sex has a trend of significance (0.06).
